Israeli dog shelters experience higher turnover due to COVID-19. Bored and depressed by coronavirus lockdown Israelis adobt more animals than ever from animal rescue organizations but at the same time growing unemployment and economic hardships force more people to give up their pets. We visited the Haifa Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on weekend and were impressed by good conditions for sheltered animals, a great selection of dogs for adoption, a number of volunteers coming to walk dogs and families coming for a visit. Most of dogs in the shelter looked well-cared and healthy, most of them quite playful and friendly.
