From Israel’s perspective, this is not simply a business decision—it’s a matter of survival. Unit 8200 is the crown jewel of Israeli intelligence, credited with preventing countless terrorist attacks and fueling Israel’s reputation as the “Startup Nation.” Its alumni power the cybersecurity ecosystem worldwide, building many of the very tools that defend American infrastructure from foreign adversaries. To hamstring this division at a time when terror threats and Iranian-backed proxies are expanding across the region is reckless. Microsoft is choosing ideology over reality, weakening one of the West’s most reliable partners in intelligence gathering.
Trump’s sharp intervention shows he understands the stakes. Monaco’s decision undermines not just Israel but also the United States, which depends heavily on intelligence sharing from 8200.
